Biografía de Gustave Flaubert

Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) fue uno de los grandes escritores franceses y se encuentra entre los mejores novelistas occidentales del siglo XIX. Su obra maestra es la popular novela «Madame Bovary» y es autor de otras grandes obras como «Salambó» o «La educación sentimental».

Flaubert pertenecía a una familia acomodada y esto le permitió vivir de rentas. Inició los estudios de Derecho, que nunca concluyó. Se relacionó en su juventud con Víctor Hugo y más adelante con George Sand, amistad esta última que dejó un buen número de cartas interesantes desde el punto de vista artístico. Tuvo contacto también con autores como Émile Zola, Alphonse Daudet, Turgueniev, Edmond Rostand y Jules Goncourt.

El alto nivel de exigencia que se imponía a sí mismo a la hora de escribir le llevaba a dedicar muchas horas a encontrar la palabra exacta, lo que convertía la escritura en un proceso muy lento y costoso que requería de una gran dedicación por su parte. Para este escritor era esencial el estilo. Solía someter a sus obras a la prueba de la lectura en voz alta, dando por bueno el texto sólo cuando consideraba que las palabras fluían con naturalidad. Flaubert logró revolucionar la novela y mostró formas de narrar innovadoras, en las que el autor desaparecía tras la historia dejando todo el protagonismo a sus personajes sin decantarse ni moralizar, aunque su presencia era constante en todo momento.
