Judith Rumelt (Teherán, Irán, 1973), que escribe con el seudónimo Cassandra Clare, es una escritora estadounidense conocida principalmente por ser de la autora de la serie de libros de Cazadores de Sombras. También publicó una trilogía precuela llamada Cazadores de Sombras: Los orígenes (The Infernal Devices), que se desarrolla en el mismo universo, pero ambientada en la era victoriana.

Cassandra Clare nació de padres estadounidenses en Teherán y pasó gran parte de su infancia viajando por el mundo con su familia. Antes de cumplir los diez años, ya había vivido en Francia, Inglaterra y Suiza. Pese a tantas mudanzas, encontró familiaridad en los libros e iba a todas partes con un libro debajo del brazo.
